About

Matt Milligan is a New York City-based artist working in photography, poetry, and prose to explore how we experience narrative. He believes history is too important to be left to the historians, and his layered and manipulated photographs capture both the physical presence of places and the echoes of their stories. By incorporating physical materials into his prints — such as the bay leaves used in "Alain's Burden" — he creates a tangible connection between image and subject, blurring the lines between representation and suggestion. His work invites viewers to consider how memory, place, and the stories of others shape our perception of the world.
